A cleverly located lift system also means you can ski all of the 100 kilometres of runs clockwise or anticlockwise and always return to your starting point. It’s known as the Tauern Round – a chance to ski in perpetual motion that is unique to the region.
Dare devil skiers and boarders should head for Gamsleiten No. 2, which boasts one of the steepest deep black mogul runs in Europe.
Longplay Snowboard Park has all that’s hot for boarders, from perfect rails to boxes and a wall ride; trend seekers should try Austria’s first snowkite school to learn about one of the latest ice sports.
There are seven ski and snowboard schools for all guests who are keen to get to know the basics, with a special kindergarten for children from two who do not ski. A snow and play paradise, Kinderland Obertauern is run by trained staff…and even has its own children’s disco!
The grown ups also get their chance to party with DJs from all over Europe providing the sounds in the region’s clubs and bars.
Those seeking a little more authentic alpine atmosphere will also not be disappointed, as there are many traditional venues to try the region’s specialties and to unwind in a cosy corner by an open fire.
