Zell am See-Kaprun action never stops

As Zell am See-Kaprun catches its breath from staging world-famous Iron Man international event this summer it is just a few weeks till it dons its winter hat and starts welcoming the world all over again.

Zell and Kaprun is again the first area in Austria to open for winter season – and it starts with a bang of a party on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier – from November 6-8th.  And for winter sport the area is unrivalled for not just the ski quality but for the beautiful views of the lake.  These wonderful towns have three diversified skiing areas suited for experts and connoisseurs, families and beginners alike.

There’s the Maiskogel mountain for beginners and families, the Schmittenhoe rising above the town and crystal clear lake and of course the massive glacier on Kaprun’s Kitzsteinhorn.  The region also offers a variety of winter sports activities from gentle cross-country, hiking and snowshoe tours through winter landscapes covered in deep snow to fast-paced tobogganing to ice sports on the natural ice of Lake Zell.  Whether rookie or pro, laid-back skier or adrenaline junkie
the Zell-Kaprun region will excite snow lovers in the new season with new attractions, exciting events and a wide range of sporting opportunities in three different ski areas.

And it boasts a 100% snow guarantee from October to June, on the brilliant glacier. This coming season has a brand-new opportunity for ski tourers, inviting all to experience skiing enjoyment on the reopened Ronachkopf ski mountain. And keen snowshoers have new routes along which to pursue their favorite winter sports.  Black Mamba thrills Even the keenest skiers get the ultimate adrenaline rush on the Kitzsteinhorn’s new slope event called Black Mamba. This black run is 1,000 meters long with a drop of 250 meters with a mind-blowing 63% gradient. A real challenge. And if that’s not enough there are five free-ride routes and three snow parks with Austria’s biggest super-pipe. Or try the glacier with runs as high as high as 3,029 meters.

World’s longest Fun Slope
Meanwhile, Zell’s Schmittenhöhe produces another attraction – the world’s longest Fun Slope measuring 1,300 meters in the Hochmais cable car, where the summer alpine pastures at Sonnalm become an extraordinary ski slope with numerous tunnels and tight turns.  Apres ski is indeed lively in Zell, as well as Kaprun, and winter is a fun time is both event and fun-filled.

Winter Events
November 6 – 8 The resort opens for winter season with its winter sports and music festival in Kaprun and on Kitzsteinhorn glacier with top bands and acts. Then at 8.00 pm the party kicks off at the WOW Festival Area and on the main stage with some of the best international DJs in the clubbing scene. The entire festival area is illuminated with light installations and 3D video mapping, where animations, images and videos are projected.  On Saturday and Sunday, you can enjoy the latest ski and snowboard models available to test drive.
