The Good Ski Guide polled its representatives in five countries and its journalists visiting ski resorts worldwide last week (mid season) and came up with a shopping basket of ski prices for independent travellers.

We’ve got the cost of everything from the flight there and transfer to resort, to the cost of ski pass, ski hire, ski school, private lessons and even the basic ski lunch of a pizza, beer or wine and water – and we got some amazing surprises.

Don't drink and ski

The huge increase in person-to-person ski collisions - highlighted in a Good Ski Guide safety campaign - has become more high profile following the accident of police Superintendent Clive Wakeley.

The Italian authorities have now revealed that there were 13,252 ski accident injuries last season (1,800 up on the previous year) and 17 deaths.

Insurers SAI said 'this is like the casualty figures from a small war'.
