Ground Zero in the Alps

This is Austria’s Ground Zero, where gentle, flower-filled Alpine meadows have been crushed and hammered open to make way for a new gondola which will speed traffic in Leogang on to the 200km of ski-easy slopes in the linked super-region of Saalbach Hinterglemm.

The new 12-seat gondola, which will be operating in plenty of time for next season, is the brainchild of Gerhard Altenberger, owner of the star hotel The Krallerhof, where the new lift will start. And it drops skiers at the mid-station where Gerhard owns the two top restaurants in the ski circuit.

Talk about captive market, and we at GSG will be among the first to try out the new super-lift and report back to readers.
