Geilo

Geilo

Beer may be £7 a pint, and none for sale on the hill, but there’s tons of snow in Norway. Take the train for four hours from Oslo and you’ll reach the charming ski resort of Geilo with truly Scandinavian architecture – log cabins and hotels, and beautiful views of Norwegian forests and the main river.

The resort has a modern lift system with skiing that pours back down to the village centre. Geilo holds the National Snowboard Championships each year and so has three world-class snow parks; the Fugleleiken with a 130m long super-pipe, and new smaller pipe this season, the Geilolia park for slopestyle and boardercross, plus the Havsdalenpark for beginners, all with perfectly groomed pipes and features for all levels.

The resort spans two sides of the valley, with a free bus linking them. Gelio’s terrain heavily favours beginners and intermediates with several areas dedicated to kids, but there are also plenty of powdery tree-runs for the more advanced. You will share the mountains with locals and sample local food and entertainment. There are plenty of spas, bars and non-skiing activities for après ski.
